MHADA Announces Second 2023 Lottery for Over 5,300 Affordable Homes in Konkan Region

Building Construction

In a bid to address the growing need for affordable housing, the Konkan board of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has announced a lottery for the sale of 5,311 affordable homes in satellite towns near Mumbai. This marks the second such lottery in 2023, following the recent Mumbai MHADA lottery.

The homes on offer encompass a range of Rs 9 to 49 lakh, making them accessible to a broader section of the society. Over 1,000 of these homes fall under the Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana (PMAY). The central government has recently raised the family income cap for benefits under the economically weaker section (EWS) category from Rs 3 to Rs 6 lakh, which is anticipated to significantly boost the number of applications in this category.

Sanjeev Jaiswal, Chief Executive Officer and Vice President of MHADA, informed, “People can submit their applications until October 16, 2023. The lottery results will be announced on November 7.”

Locations

The affordable homes are strategically located in micro-markets near Mumbai, such as Vasai, Virar, Titwala, Thane, Kalyan, and Mumbra, as outlined by MHADA.

Size and Price

These affordable homes vary in size from 258 to 667 sq ft in carpet area. The most affordable apartments, priced at Rs 9.89 lakh, are situated in Vasai and encompass approximately 258 sq ft. On the other end of the spectrum, the costliest ones, priced at Rs 49.81 lakh and measuring approximately 667 sq ft, will be located in Virar. Several of the apartments on sale are part of under-construction projects. The registration process for the lottery is entirely online and can be accessed through https://housing.mhada.gov.in/.

This development closely follows the results of the Mumbai MHADA lottery in August 2023. Additionally, MHADA’s Pune board recently announced the sale of 5,863 affordable homes in Pune, Solapur, Sangli, and Kolhapur through a lottery held on September 6, 2023.
